Monday Minutes

It has been quite busy around the Trips For Kids WNC office so far this year. Here is a quick list of updates:

-With the help of the Mars Hill Cycling Team, we are making plans to provide mountain bike outings for the youth of Madison County. Due to budget cuts to youth programs in the county, we are running into roadblocks. If you work with a group in Madison County, let us know.

-The Erwin Middle Bike Club continues to meet every Wednesday, rain or shine. We recently took a trip to Spin Tech and introduced the kids to the computrainers. On another recent rainy day, we demoed some touring gear, complete with pictures from Tracey Armstrong’s bike touring trip to China. The kids are hooked and want to do a tour of their own!

-The city of Brevard is behind some new trail being built. The Bracken Mountain Trail is new trail being cut, which will connect the City of Brevard to some classic Pisgah trails. It is exciting to be involved in this process, and just as exciting to work next to two of Trips For Kids WNC board members: Chris Strout and Rick Daniel, and the 40+ volunteers who come to the work days.

-Plans are in the works to return to Fancine Delaney for another round of Bicycle 101 this spring. We are also working out some logistics with another local school for something similar. Do you want Bicycle 101 in your school? Contact us.
