Greetings friends and supporters,
As I sit in my office, drinking locally roasted coffee, listening to the rain falling on the roof, and gazing out the window, I am reminded that I have so much to be thankful for. So, many individuals, families, groups, organizations, companies…. the list goes on forever, have selflessly donated in one way or another. Without your care and concern for the mission of Trips For Kids WNC, we would not be where we are, doing what we do.
What exactly do we do? We provide mountain bike outings and environmental education to youth who would not otherwise have that opportunity. We have been doing this with your support since November 18, 2010. In that time, we have served close to 2500 youth in our community and provided them with a life changing experience that led them outside of their comfort zones and gave them a peek at what life has to offer.
I started out 7 years ago with 5 bicycles and a hitch rack, partnering with local schools to host field trips and supporting the bike club at Erwin Middle School. (Tracey Armstrong and Tracy Malone get credit for starting that club!), We have grown to hosting up to 6 after school bike clubs, and facilitating summer programming up to 5 times per week during summer break. We also participate in numerous area events including offering support for local cycling races and the Bike Safety Rodeos hosted by Blue Ridge Bicycle Club.
Our community’s youth are in need. They are growing up in a different world that we did 30-40 yrs ago. The stresses are higher, the demands are higher, cost of living is rising, cost of education is increasing, and so on. You know what I am talking about, and I am trying to offer one more way to give these kids hope for a bright future.
I’m thankful to work in a community of folks who care, who sacrifice time and money to make our youth’s world a better place. It would be easy to go about our business, doing what we do and not get our hands dirty. It would be easy to leave it to any number of other groups, individuals or organizations. Well, I am not prone to doing what is easy, and I am definitely not afraid to get my hands dirty and work hard, and neither are you.
So, what exactly am I trying to accomplish by writing you today? To get to the point, our funding for the year is lower than anticipated and the organization needs your help to make it through the end of the year and into 2018.
I rarely ask for help, but right now, I’m doing just that. I and the organization need your support now.
The two primary ways to donate are below:
- The Bicycle Thrift Shop: we are in need of bicycles (dusty but not rusty) clean clothing and functional parts/gear
- Donate directly to PayPal here: Click Here to Donate
Thanks for taking the time to read. Also, thanks for previous support and for your support into the future. I look forward to continuing to serve our community and our youth!
